PANEL 2 - `A better life for women in rural areas`

In Panel 2 of the Feminist Solidarity Forum, we spoke about women who have inspired and still inspire us, the importance of keeping traditions alive, and events and resources for rural women.

We discussed these topics with national experts in the field:
- Mrs Iuliana Năstase-Onu, from the Femeia Contează Association spoke to us „About the past and the women who inspired us”. We learned about the tradition of laying wreaths at the bust of Viorica Agarici in Roman Railway Station every year on July 3, 2022. We also learned more about the „Viorica Agarici” Festival held on 3 July 2022 in Dămienești, Bacău County, and about the life of Viorica Agarici, a supporter of the local educational infrastructure.
- We continued with Mrs Luminița Aonofriesei, from Asociația Femeilor din Mediul Rural „Olga Sturdza” who spoke about „Olga Sturdza as a model of inspiration for preserving traditions”. We were happy to attend the presentation of the two editions of the event „Traditional shirt - pride of the Moldovan village”, which took place at the Sturdza Palace in Miroslava, Iași county. We found out that the ladies were invited to spend a few hours together as the ladies used to do in the past, how some of them used to gather in the women's group to discuss life. To remember what their lives looked like that allowed them to be so close together, three or four generations in the same space at the same time on a normal Saturday.

- The last presentation of this panel was about the project „ABLE - A Better LifE - Empowering Women in Rural Areas - online platform and storybook as resources for rural women”, a presentation made by Mrs Laura Albu, President of Romanian Women's LOBBY. The online platform a-betterlife.eu was developed within the framework of the project A Better LifE, a project co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. The project aimed to develop knowledge, skills and working procedures within rural women's organisations in the project partner countries by co-creating an innovative working method „ABLE”, by developing a common Training Curriculum and the MOCC Online Platform with 15 self-assessment modules.

Three presentations that brought back fond memories from the lives of the speakers, but also inspired participants to think about future actions and projects to carry out in their communities.

The event took place within the project 'GLORIA - feminism and the strategic approach of gender equality', carried out with the financial support of Active Citizens Fund România, a program funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the SEE 2014-2021.

Working together for a green, competitive and inclusive Europe.
