Women of change in the time of war

Brașov

2022 - 06 May

The event took place in physical format, in Brașov, on May 6, 2022 and was organised within the project „GLORIA - feminism and the strategic approach to gender equality”, carried out with the financial support of Active Citizens Fund România, a program funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the SEE 2014-2021.

UN Security Council resolution - 1325 (2000) urges the Member States to ensure greater representation of women at decision-making levels in national, regional, and international institutions and mechanisms for conflict prevention, management and resolution.

The evidence is clear: women's participation in peacebuilding generates more acceptance from communities and makes peace more lasting. Women are at the forefront of the peace struggle. They are peace builders, change factors and human rights activists. Decision makers and leaders. They mediate and negotiate with armed groups. Implements peace agreements and promotes a peaceful transition. And they fight for women's rights and social cohesion in their communities. However, too often, women remain on the periphery of formal peace processes. And they are excluded from the decision-making rooms. Today, women's leadership is a cause. Tomorrow must be the norm. We can no longer exclude half of humanity from international peace and security.

In the first part of the event, we discussed the role of women of change in times of war, and in the second part of the event in the 50/50 campaign "Women in Romania are not a minority" - about solutions that can bring more women to local councils, parliaments, and decision-making positions - and how they get there in eligible positions as a measure to increase their presence at the negotiating table and resource allocations.

The event was organized within the project ‘GLORIA - feminism and strategic approach of gender equality’.

The project is implemented by Community Safety and Mediation Center Foundation in partnership with the Romanian Women's LOBBY Association, Foreningen HEDDA; Network of East-West Women; Bulgarian Platform of European Women's Lobby; Magyar Női Érdekérvényesítő Szövetség (Hungarian Women's Lobby) and benefits from a 249,943 euros grant from Active Citizens Fund Romania, programme funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants Grants 2014 -2021: for more information visit www.eeagrants.org.
