Online

2021 - 08 December

The National Agency for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men (ANES) in partnership with the Associazione Donne Romene in Itali (ADRI) and the Romanian Women's Lobby Association (ROWL), organised the International Conference on ‘Domestic Violence - A Transnational Phenomenon. Let's act together, without barriers!’, which took place online format, on December 8, 2021, between 12:00 and 15:00.

We consider that the organization of this conference represents a very good opportunity to exchange opinions, expertise and good practices, and, at the same time, a good moment of reflection on the identification of solutions and means of cooperation, especially useful in the common fight against domestic violence and gender-based violence.

According to UN Women (The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women), one of three women worldwide is experiencing physical or sexual violence, committed in particular by an intimate partner, and since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, data and reports from all over the world have shown that, absolutely all forms of violence against women and girls have intensified, with particular emphasis on domestic violence.

The statistics reveal the global dimension of the phenomenon indicating that 243 million girls and women, aged between 14 and 49, have gone through situations of sexual violence and / or physical violence committed by their partner in the last year.

From this perspective, improving the state response to integrated measures for victims is a topical objective, in accordance with the provisions of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention), ratified by Romania by Law no. 30/2016 and other relevant treaties in the field.

In this context, experts from Romania and other countries have joined our approach and gave presentations at the conference.
